Etsy Made Local: Leeds Make Your Own Fun: Zine Workshop

Create your own self-published book with zine-maker and comic book creator Kristyna Baczynski. Zines can really be about anything, from outlandish and imaginary tales to confessions and secret obsessions.

Whether it’s a pocket-sized pamphlet cataloguing your favourite pets, or a fold-out map charting your dream adventure, this workshop will help you take your zine ideas from brain to paper.

During this workshop we will make a range of different styles of zine and fill the pages with content using drawing and writing prompts, as well as cut-up collage, hand lettering and lots more!

The workshop is being held as part of the Etsy Made Local: Leeds Christmas Market.  The class will take place in the Denny Room on the Lower Ground Floor.

Minimum Age for participants is 16.

The Kvinde Launch Party

Join us to mark the launch of the zine, celebrate female creativity and raise funds for a worthy cause!

Along with the opportunity to mingle with some creative, like-minded people, come along to pick up a copy of the zine, enter our (rather incredible) raffle, jazz up your nails (if you fancy) and eat cake – all in the name of celebrating creativity, and raising funds for Inkwell Arts along the way.

Featuring a pop-up bar from Archie’s Bar and Kitchen – with 50p from all drinks going towards our Inkwell funraising pot!

About the Kvinde Zine

The zine looks at the many different facets of female creativity, and features a moving photo essay, a hard-hitting piece on the very meaning of feminism, as well as some incredible illustration work and lighter narrative pieces. In short, we’re celebrating female creativity, with the end goal of raising money for a very worthy cause.

About Inkwell Arts

Inkwell Arts is a safe, dedicated arts space that enriches lives through creativity, and promoting positive mental health. The entire project is charity-run, and relies on help from Leeds Mind to offer a creative shelter to those in the community that need it most.

FAQs

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Feel free to email us at hello@kvinde.co.uk.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

If possible, yes please! Tickets on the Eventbrite app or shown to us on an email are more than fine too.

What is the refund policy?

As this is a charity fundrasining event, we can’t offer refunds. If you do find yourself unable to make the event after purchasing a ticket, please do still get in touch – we can look at posting you a copy of the zine, and reallocating your space to someone else as our venue capacity is very limited.

Kick Up The Arts #1 (a zine-making social)

A new social for Leeds-based zinesters, comix makers and artists!

All welcome, bring your own supplies and projects to work on. You don’t have to have ever made a zine or a comic to come along.

We are hosting this in the bar area of Wharf Chambers, and will have a nifty sign for you to find us.

Wharf Chambers Co-operative Club is a members’ club, and you need to be a member, or a guest of a member, in order to attend. To join, please visit wharfchambers.org. Membership costs £1 and requires a minimum of 48 hours to take effect.

Leeds Zine Fair

After last year’s riproaring success, the Leeds Zine Fair is back. It’s in the same place – the fabulous former church of Left Bank – for a massive celebration of zines, self publishing, radical politics and DIY culture.

There will be a wealth of stuff going on with 50+ stalls, workshops, a Zine in a Day printed there and then from pages punters give us, have-a-go screen printing, badge making and more!

There will also be food including wood fired pizzas from Streatza and a licensed bar all day.

The Leeds Zine Fair is being organised by Footprint – Leeds’ zine-happy radical printing co-operative. We’ll keep updating this page as we confirm details of stallholders and events at the fair.

Stalls are £10. If you’d like to book a one, do a workshop or have any questions or suggestions, do drop us a line (to: footprint@footprinters.co.uk) or give us a call (on 0113 262 4408).

We’re instigating this but it’s a DIY event, it’ll be as good as the punters make it!
