Glasgow Zine Library Re-Opening!

You are invited to the grand opening of the new Glasgow Zine Library!

In June we ran a crowdfunder campaign in the hopes that we could raise some money to build a permanent home. Thanks to the support of everyone from the community, we were able to sign a lease.

Since then, we’ve been working away getting things ready. We’ve dealt with everything shop fittings, electrics, a little bit of plastering and perhaps some ghosts, but the end is in sight, and with it our very exciting and very bright future!

Tucked away in the heart of the southside of Glasgow, we’re very excited to have a hub from which we can run our workshops, talks, screenings, as well as have a space where people can chill and get inspired.

So come on down on the 28th and say hello, read a zine and have a drink, and make yourself at home.

There will be a donation bar, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as a raffle!

Sponsorship and raffle prizes for this event comes from:
Category Is Books

Address: 636 Cathcart Road, Glasgow, G42 8AA

Please note: GZL does not currently have a wheelchair accessible bathroom.

Zine Workshop – Glasgow

Join Butterfly Conservations Bog Squad in collaboration with the Glasgow Zine Library for a fun workshop in a fantastic location at the Hidden Gardens in Glasgow!

What is a zine? – A zine is a kind of mini mixed-media magazine which is handmade/self-published. They are made by many writers, artists and creators on a range of themes, interests or passions – see examples that Bog Squad have made for events at bogsquad.weebly.com/peatlands-for-people.html. Zines are a great way of getting information out there, so can be tailored to any subject and can be easily reproduced with just a photocopier. They are a really fun and relaxing activity with lots of cutting and gluing involved to create something truly unique!

What will we be doing? – This event will be a chance for attendees to hear about the work BC is doing in peatland restoration, climate change, sustainability and nature conservation.

There will be time for skill sharing, networking and perhaps a walk outdoors (weather permitting) for inspiration.

We will be working on a collaborative zine on the topics discussed and attendees will also have the opportunity to make their own mini zines about their thoughts on the day. We’ll be providing all the materials – paper, pens, glue, paint, stamps, stickers, magazines/media to cut out – but if you have some art supplies/reference materials you’d like to use in your zine do feel free to bring them along!

This event is primarily being run for adults although interested young people are also more than welcome.

It is completely FREE TO ATTEND however the venue has LIMITED CAPACITY so we do ask that if you want to come along that you CONTACT US TO BOOK A SPACE.

TO BOOK A SPACE PLEASE CONTACT – Rebecca Crawford on rcrawford@butterfly-conservation.org

Join Wish Fulfillment Press to celebrate the launch of their newest title ‘ONCE CONNECTED’ by Glasgow Artist Erin McGrath.

‘Once Connected’ is a collection of black and white drawings Astrally projected from Dennistoun in the early 90’s and arriving to us in Zine form via the pen of Erin McGrath. The drawings borrow from the language of comics using panels and non sequitur placement to group, juxtapose and slow a collection of symbols and imagery from personal history.

Fear of Making Art: zine making workshop

Whether you’re a seasoned zine-maker or a first timer come along to FOMA’s first zine making workshop and creative space

Zines can be on any subject, using any materials. (we’ll post some pdfs in the page for you to see beforehand as well!)

This workshop is a welcoming space in which you can express yourself creatively as much (or as little) as you’d like. There will be an opportunity to share work and discuss it but there’s no pressure to do so if you’d prefer not to.

Some materials will be provided, as well as examples of zines for inspiration, but we encourage you to bring your own projects along too.

We’ll be in FIKA from 3pm until closing time at 6pm, everyone is welcome to drop in between then & stay for as long as they like. FIKA has a selection of vegan & gluten free snacks & drinks.

If you’re at all apprehensive about coming by yourself, send a message to the foma page & one of us to come greet you outside.

Accessibility information: FIKA is located on the ground floor, we will be using the upstairs space which can be accessed using a lift or stairs. The toilets are located on the ground floor and are gender neutral.

Glasgow Zine Fest

Glasgow Zine Fest is an independent publishing festival that champions DIY art and empowerment.

Zines – self-made magazines – have their roots in punk and protest movements. The medium has become an accessible way to share art, ideas and cat photos. This tradition continues at GZF with a programme focused on equality and engagement. GZF will feature a slate of events, including screenings, talks, seminars, and a series of practical workshops in zine-making.

The main event of GZF is a zine fair, featuring collections from zine makers of all shapes and sizes, as well as zine libraries and distributors. GZF’s fair runs Saturday from 11am – 6pm and Sunday 10am – 3pm. Come see what it’s all about!
