Glasgow Zine Fest 2024

Glasgow Zine Fest is a yearly celebration of zine culture, featuring events about art, community, and heritage.

What does Glasgow Zine Fest involve?

As well as providing all the good vibes that you’d hope to find at a festival that celebrates DIY culture and creativity, Glasgow Zine Fest is founded around two major components:

Events!

We programme a full weekend of events that are affordable and accessible. We welcome internationally-renowned speakers an workshop leaders to deliver everything from performances to mural-making, to poetry writing, to kids arts and crafts, and much MORE!

Zine Fair!

Each year, we hold a massive zine fair that welcomes over 40 zine-makers. For the whole weekend, zine-makers, small presses, artists and more showcase their wares, hang out with each other, and generally have a lovely time!

Sapphic Writers Zine Launch: Meet Me At Lesbos

Book tickets here

Please note: this event will be held online using Zoom

Join the Sapphic Writers Collective for a night of performances to celebrate the launch of their new zine: Meet Me At Lesbos.

In this issue, we’re thinking about reunion. For some of us, the prospect of borders re-opening and travel restrictions easing is holding open the prospect of seeing loved ones for the first time in many months. We also live in a world scarred by borders and walls that actively prevent innumerable reunions from happening, a fact that has only been exacerbated by the pandemic. Come along and hear all about the winter stories from our incredible community.

Please note: this event will be recorded, and content from the recording may be shared publicly online by Sapphic Writers and their followers for promotional purposes.

TV Will Break Your Heart: TV Fanzine Workshop

“With film you’re in and you’re out and you go on with your life. TV is like a long relationship that ends abruptly or wistfully. One way or another, TV will break your heart.” – David Bordwell

It’s time to put all those hours spent watching Netflix to good use. We know you’ve got ~strong feelings~ about TV shows – so do we. Come and gather with other TVphiles and get those feelings out of your head and into a zine!!

Some potential zine titles to get you inspired:
-why’d they cancel Firefly??
-an ode to the sassy commentator on Come Dine With Me
-the impeccable morality of Captain Jean Luc Picard
-Loving Love Island

This event is free but donations are greatly appreciated!

Survivors Zine the Archive

Learn to write and bind your own zine! In this workshop, we’ll transform copies of archival material from the Women’s Aid Archive into hand-bound zines. During the first part of the workshop, we’ll use archival material to tell our own stories, crafting poetry or prose through the inspirational material housed at the library. You’ll then learn how to hand-bind your stories into minature books using traditional bookbinding techniques.

This event is open to self-identifying female survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse aged 18+.
There will be a trained support worker present throughout.
