Swansea Zine Fest 2020 (online)

We will be holding a VIRTUAL Swansea Zine Fest on the original zine fest date, Saturday 9th May 2020!

The event will take place on this page and be shared across our other social media. The day will involve workshops, crafting and zine reviews as well as our usual open mic session – more info will be posted here soon, along with an itinerary for the day.

We would like to invite you to get involved! We are looking for:

– Pitches for videos and blogs about anything to do with zines and self-publishing. This could be reviews of your favourite zines, zine history, why you like zines, particular kinds of zines like zines, or a how-to video demonstrating a particular element of zine making.

– Zine readings. Feel free to go ahead and record a maximum of five minute video of you reading your work and we will publish it on the day as part of our open mic segment.

– Anything else! If you have an idea about how you want to get involved in the virtual zine fest that we haven’t thought about just let us know and we’ll see if it can work!

We are accepting content from anyone in the zine community, so feel free to spread this message to other zinester and self-publishing friends!

The deadline for content is 30th April 2020 – please send your ideas, blogs, and videos to swanseazinefest@gmail.com!

Swansea Zine Fest 2019

Swansea Zine Fest is a not-for-profit event held to celebrate fanzines and DIY self-publishing. The very first SZF was held in 2018. The organisers are three Swansea-based zinesters and activists.

A zine (pronounced “zeen,” as in “maga-zine”) is a self-published, small circulation, non-commercial booklet or magazine, usually produced by one person or a few individuals. Zines can include personal essays, political discussions, fiction, do-it-yourself tips, articles about music or movies, comics, poetry, reviews – anything under the sun!

Come along to buy and swap zines and DIY publications from a range of zinesters and creators from Swansea and further afield. We will also be holding some zine readings, craft space, free zine giveaways, and a chance to make your own zine!

· Free entry
· Fully accessible venue
· Open to all

The event is open to people of all ages; please note however that some content on sale and in the zine readings may not be appropriate for children so they should be supervised. Stallholders must be over the age of 18 but can be assisted by children and young people.
