Food Zine Workshop | Nothing To Celebrate MCR at The DBA | Saturday 14th of Food Zine Workshop | Nothing To Celebrate MCR at The DBA | Saturday 14th of September 2024

Come join us at The Derby Brewery Arms for our Food Zine Workshop, in which we will share traditional and family recipes to make a small compilation of foods and dishes from our cultures in Abya Yala, while also finding or coming up with the images, messages and drawings that will make up the visual design of the zine.

Refreshments will be provided. Please make sure to tell us of any dietary preferences and restrictions and allergies we must cater to upon purchasing a free ticket.

We have a limited travel budget for attendees to this event. If you would benefit from financial support to pay for travel costs for this event, please get in touch via nothingtocelebratemcr@gmail.com. As there is limited capacity for this event, we will offer this support on a first-come-first-served basis.

This workshop is for people with roots in Abya Yala to join the queer-led N2C collective in learning about zine-making through the collaborative design of this small food zine.

Abya Yala (in the indigenous Kuna language, meaning land in full maturity) is also commonly known as the American continent, including North and South America and Mesoamerica. This session is intended for migrants (including any descendants of first generation migrants) and diasporans with roots in Abya Yala, particularly those whose heritage and cultural experiences are rooted in indigenous communities in some way. We intend for this session to contribute to strengthening a local network of Abya Yala migrants and diasporans, as well as create a joyful environment where we can share about our cultures through food and tradition.

Nothing To Celebrate events center the safety and wellbeing of queer and trans people from global majority groups. We also implement a zero-tolerance policy in regard to prejudice and harassment, hate and abuse of any kind. We provide an accountable space where attendees can rely on the support and guidance of N2C collective as event organizers trained in safeguarding, to answer to any queries and concerns regarding the access and safety of our events as well as any circumstances arising during, as a result of, or in the lead up to our events. There will be a designated safeguarding and access lead during our events and multiple members of the collective will be present at our events. N2C collective is made up of queer and trans people from global majority groups and our allies.

If you have any queries regarding this, please contact us via nothingtocelebratemcr@gmail.com
