Zine writers Tali Soares and Fliss Collier curate this exhibition, gathering zines from Milton Keynes and surrounds to Belgium, Brazil and beyond.
SW Zines presents a zine library for the public to browse on the theme of “making art in small towns”. The exhibition explores the different work of artists who have grown up or lived in small towns including written statements from zine creators about their experiences.
Zines are a form of self-publishing – the artist creates at home, many are/were teenagers working from their bedrooms. 60s/70s music fanzines, especially punk, influenced generations. Zines are widely made today – the art of cutting, pasting, photocopying, is alive in suburbs across the world. Reaching out, speaking up, zines connect in a unique way.
There will be a library of zines to explore, and a chance to talk to Tali and Fliss. Free mini zines will be on offer, as well as a range of zines from various artists to buy.
