SUMMARY:Leeds Zine Fair 2022
DESCRIPTION:We are very happy to welcome you to Leeds Zine Fair (our first since 2018) on 24th September 2022!  It’ll run from 11am to 5pm.  This year we’re gonna be at CLAY (Centre For Live Arts Yorkshire)\, 2 Regent St\, LS2 7QA. \nIt’s a really special place and we’re really happy to be holding the fair there. \nApplications for stalls are now closed!\nThanks so much to everyone who applied!  If you haven’t heard back from us by now about your application\, please do email us\, but also check your spam / junk email to see if our response has landed there. \nWhat to expect on the day\n\n40 stalls of independent zine and print makers and small press publishers – we’ll be sharing info on our stallholders on our instagram so keep an eye out there!\nWe’ll be making a Zine in a Day aka ZIAD – live printing from our beautiful RZ riso printer. Come and draw or make a piece of art and have it riso printed into a collaborative zine to take home. First timers especially encouraged.\nLive badge making and zine making workshops.\nInspiring Zine documentary showing at intervals thorough the day.\n\nAccess Information\nThere is information on this page of their website about accessibility at the venue. \n“It has a single step access to a single door that opens into the venue. The door is 32 inches wide. We have a metal ramp for the step; front of house staff will put this out upon request. \nWe have 2 gender-neutral toilets that are down a flight of stairs that is 12 steps. Unfortunately\, there is no lift in our building. The rest of the building is on one floor. Wherever possible\, with our limited budgets\, we hire in an accessible toilet (portaloo).” \nThe portaloo that they mention will be there on the day of the fair – it is in a (won’t be being used) loading area that you need to pass through to get to the other toilets\, so is still a bit removed from the populated areas & has that sense of privacy.

SUMMARY:Eco Print and Monotype Zine Workshop with Jessica Crisp
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this event will be held in person at Glasgow Zine Library. \nJessica Crisp will lead a short foraging walk around the immediate surroundings of the Glasgow Zine Library\, looking at examples of commonly found dye plants\, discussing their properties and the colours they can give us. \nBack at the Library space we will experiment with Monotype using repurposed Riso printing ink. This process has the benefit of being very simple\, portable\, without the need for specialist equipment\, using leftover biodegradable rice bran oil Riso ink. \nWe will then fold our prints\, using a simple 8 page Zine fold and take them into the Eco Print process. We will soak the zines in an iron rich solution made from rusty nails before layering the pages with overlapping petals and leaves collected on our walk\, press them tightly together and steam the bundles in a tea urn. During the steaming process the iron and the tannins in the plant material will react to leave beautifully intricate impressions on the paper. \nUnsure what to pay for Pay-What-You-Can events? Find our guide here.

SUMMARY:Queer Theory for Everyday Life
DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for a relaxed in-person exploration of Queer Theory and the many ways we can use it in our everyday lives!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nQueer Theory encompasses an intentional questioning and deconstructing of the categories (man or woman)\, oppositions (man vs. woman\, heterosexual vs. homosexual) and equations (gender=sex) that underpin notions of identity and sexuality (Rosemary Hennessy\, Queer Theory: A Review of the difference Special Issue and Wittig’s The Straight Mind). \nQueer Theory\, alike various domains of theory\, has a reputation for being ‘out of reach’ or ‘difficult to grasp’. We strongly believe it doesn’t have to be that way and want to take folks who are interested in Queer Theory\, on a journey to explore how it can be used in everyday life. The discussion will be naturally led by the thoughts and reflections of the participants – we will also provide discussion prompters i.e excerpts from texts and visuals. \nFollowing on from the main discussion\, participants are then invited to partake in a Zine workshop where they can develop what they’ve explored into an authentic Zine!! \nAll activities are hosted by Book28 Volunteers. If you have any questions about the event please don’t hesitate to contact us on: book28.library@gmail.com \nbook tickets: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/queer-theory-for-everyday-life-tickets-338381186237

SUMMARY:Sapphic Writers Zine Launch: Meet Me At Lesbos
DESCRIPTION:Book tickets here \nPlease note: this event will be held online using Zoom \nJoin the Sapphic Writers Collective for a night of performances to celebrate the launch of their new zine: Meet Me At Lesbos. \nIn this issue\, we’re thinking about reunion. For some of us\, the prospect of borders re-opening and travel restrictions easing is holding open the prospect of seeing loved ones for the first time in many months. We also live in a world scarred by borders and walls that actively prevent innumerable reunions from happening\, a fact that has only been exacerbated by the pandemic.
