The medium has become an accessible way to share art\, ideas and cat photos. This tradition continues at GZF with a programme focused on equality and engagement. GZF will feature a slate of events\, including screenings\, talks\, seminars\, and a series of practical workshops in zine-making. \nThe main event of GZF is a zine fair\, featuring collections from zine makers of all shapes and sizes\, as well as zine libraries and distributors. GZF’s fair runs Saturday from 11am – 6pm and Sunday 10am – 3pm. Come see what it’s all about!

DESCRIPTION:The workshop will teach people how to make a small eight-page A7 zine\, which can be folded out to display a large two-colour screenprinted A4 poster based on a number of preset designs. Participant will choose from a selection of papers\, print a poster onto one side\, then fold and cut the poster so that it can be folded down into a zine\, the topic of which can be anything they want. By the end of the workshop\, participants will have a good beginner’s knowledge on what goes into screenprinting and its advantages and disadvantages\, as well as a one-off unique zine/poster which they can take home and display. \nWho is it suitable for – ages 16-25 years

DESCRIPTION:Zines are self-made mini magazines that have been influential in representing the narratives\, politics and sub-cultures of groups that are typically under-represented by mainstream culture. \nThey provide an opportunity for individuals to use craft techniques to reflect their identity through creative self-expression. The art of zine making is simple\, easy and can provide an outlet for self-meditation and social activism. \nThis workshop for LGBTQI people of colour will explore our experiences; learn about the historical use of zines within social activism\, and work to create zines that challenge racism and homophobia in the UK. \nThis is a FREE workshop but booking is required – please reserve your place. \nThis workshop is in collaboration with Rainbow Noir and Archives+. SUMMARY:The Recovery: exhibition and zine launch
DESCRIPTION:Having previously questioned perceptions of print media with her screenprints in the style of mock newspaper front-pages\, for the latest iteration of The Recovery\, Emily turned to the the zine format. Partly in response to the significant community archive of independently published zines of the Forgotten Zine Archive at A4 Studios\, she created a series of The Recovery zines. The launch event will also feature a curated selection of political zines from the Forgotten Zine Archive\, as well as a hands-on zine-making workshop facilitated by Emily McGardle and Tom Maher of the Forgotten Zine Archive on Saturday 11th February\, from 12 -5pm. \nThe event will begin with readings from selected zines\, including from The Recovery\, with a relaxed and informal panel discussion to follow.
