DESCRIPTION:You are invited to the grand opening of the new Glasgow Zine Library! \nIn June we ran a crowdfunder campaign in the hopes that we could raise some money to build a permanent home. Thanks to the support of everyone from the community\, we were able to sign a lease. \nSince then\, we’ve been working away getting things ready. SUMMARY:Free workshop – BAME Lib Zine issue #02
DESCRIPTION:Who is the workshop for?\nThe session is primarily for Black\, Asian\, Minority Ethnic\, QTIPOC librarians and informational professionals who wish to share their experiences and create a toolkit to support others in the sector. \nThe workshop will include:\n\nQuick introduction to zines and a look at the Stuart Hall Library zine collection.\nDiscussion on the theme of ‘Surviving the Sector’\nHands on zine-making\n\nAfter the workshop\, he work will be collated into a digital zine to be shared online. I also aim to share the zine with libraries with zine collections who may be interested in holding a physical copy. I will create a credits list at the back of the zine\, your work can be submitted under an anonymous name if you wish. \nStuart Hall Library have very kindly agreed to host this workshop in their new location and will provide scissors\, paper\, glue\, pencils\, pens\, makers and access to a photocopier. However\, this is run without a budget so please help out by bringing\, pencils\, glue stick\, scissors\, old magazines if you have any.

DESCRIPTION:When\n19 September 2019 – 20 September 2019\n12:00-7:00pm each day \nPrice: Free \n\nDescription\nZines\, or fanzines\, are self-published material made for little money and distributed cheaply. Their focus is not on profit\, but rather they have historically been used as a tool of political resistance\, often circumventing traditional publishing and distributing standards\, giving a voice to the underrepresented and marginalized. Though zines were forged in the fires of oppression\, they grew and expanded to other subcultures\, such as punk and Riot Grrrl\, science fiction writers\, comic makers\, artists and designers\, in addition to their foundation of anti-fascism\, anti-racism\, and anti-sexism. \nJoin Disability Arts Online in creating a zine based on the themes of this year’s Sick! Festival. Materials and prompts will be provided\, as well as a selection of zines to flip through for inspiration and enjoyment. DESCRIPTION:On Sunday 8th September 2019\, Hackney Comic + Zine Fair will be taking over London Fields Arches for a celebration of sequential art and the people that produce it. Over 40 artists\, writers and publishers will be there\, with a huge range of styles\, genres and approaches to the comics medium available to purchase. \nPresented by London Fields Brewery\, it will be a whole day packed full of comics\, art and beer. Entry is free\, so there is nothing to stop you from coming along\, buying some comics\, chatting to the creators and having a drink with us. \nThe aim of the event is to showcase the many different forms and genres that sequential art can take – especially in the independent\, self-published and small-press scene. No matter if you’ve never picked up a comic before or if you have boxes full of thousands of them in the spare room at your dad’s house (sorry dad\, I swear I’ll move those someday) then with work covering everything from autobiographical travel journals\, abstract introspection\, sci-fi romance and struggles with mental health\, there will be something for you to enjoy at HCZF. \nAs well as our talented bunch of creators\, we’ll be joined by various communities\, websites\, podcasts and groups that are focused on promoting the medium and spreading their passion about it as far and wide as possible\, and we will have drop-in workshops throughout the day for you to try your hand at making comics yourself. \nWe also have beer. DESCRIPTION:Join Butterfly Conservations Bog Squad in collaboration with the Glasgow Zine Library for a fun workshop in a fantastic location at the Hidden Gardens in Glasgow! \nWhat is a zine? – A zine is a kind of mini mixed-media magazine which is handmade/self-published. Zines are a great way of getting information out there\, so can be tailored to any subject and can be easily reproduced with just a photocopier. They are a really fun and relaxing activity with lots of cutting and gluing involved to create something truly unique! \nWhat will we be doing? – This event will be a chance for attendees to hear about the work BC is doing in peatland restoration\, climate change\, sustainability and nature conservation. \nThere will be time for skill sharing\, networking and perhaps a walk outdoors (weather permitting) for inspiration. \nWe will be working on a collaborative zine on the topics discussed and attendees will also have the opportunity to make their own mini zines about their thoughts on the day.
