DESCRIPTION:For one night and one night only… Grrrl Groannn are hosting their first physical event for the launch of their zine issue 3. \nThe launch will be showcasing 3 hot local music acts alongside an immersive photography exhibition of selected prints from Grrrl Groannn’s infamous live music photo collection – these prints will also be up for sale too. \nZine 3 is Grrrl Groannn”s biggest yet – featuring the likes of: Big Joanie\, Sofa King\, Camp Cope\, Body/Head\, Venus\, Thyla\, Village Bully\, Calva Louise\, Hinds\, Graywave\, Dilly Dally\, Drahla\, Siksa\, Aufbau Principle\, and Pinky Pinky. \nWe hope you can join us to celebrate the representation of womxn in the music industry\, from local to global scenes\, and to give a big ‘fuck you’ to patriarchal attitudes that are still currently existing in all areas of the music industry. \nOn 27/11/2019\, Geoff Ellis (director of TRNSMT’s festival had this to say in regards to their 2020 line-up: “We’d love there to be a higher representation of females but there isn’t\, certainly on the acts we’re announcing today. It will be a while until there’s a 50/50 balance. That’s definitely several years ahead for any major festival to achieve because there’s far\, far less female artists. We need to get more females picking up guitars\, forming bands\, playing in bands”. \nWhat a dickhead. This is why we need consistent support for events and initiatives like our own to combat attitudes such as these\, and move closer towards gender equality.

DESCRIPTION:Weirdo Zine Fest is a self-publishing fair celebrating DIY cultural production by radical and marginalised people. Weirdo Zine Fest has previously taken place in partnership with DIY Space for London\, the National Trust and Leeds Libraries. This year we’re returning to London as part of Science Gallery London’s ON EDGE season to run an edition of the fair which focuses on zines exploring anxiety! \nFor this edition of the fair\, preference for tables goes to anyone who has experience of anxiety\, but as always women\, queers\, POC\, disabled people\, trans people\, fat people\, sex workers and anyone who is otherwise marginalised are particularly encouraged to apply! \nThe event will showcase the work of 20-30 stallholders and other exciting things happening too (details tbc!). Stallholders will be announced in early October. \nInterested in tabling? Tables are free! Fill out this form by 20th September: https://forms.gle/vThYcJYwzWuQ7eaZ9\nYou will be advised if your application is accepted in late September. Anyone who identifies as marginalised and making work about mental health is encouraged to apply. DESCRIPTION:Come and join Brighton Zine Network at our fortnightly(ish) zine club! Zine club is a place to make\, learn\, and talk about zines in an informal and encouraging space. It is also a place to connect with other zine-makers and zine-interested folk in Brighton\, with the aim of creating a collaborative and supportive zine community in the city. \nBasic materials (paper\, glue\, scissors\, pens\, etc)\, zines and ‘how-to’ guides will be provided\, as will biscuits! Everyone is welcome\, whether you’re an experienced zinester or you’ve never made a zine before. \nZine club will run from 2-5pm on Sundays; the dates for 2019 are 29th September\, 13th October\, 3rd and 17th November\, 1st December. \nZine club will be in the Cowley Club Library which is a private room accessed via the main Cowley Club cafe space on London Road or via the back door on Providence Place (see below for access details). \n——————————————————– \nWho is Brighton Zine Network? \nWe’re a small group of people with varying levels of zine experience\, all living in Brighton. Right now\, Brighton Zine Network is mostly just an idea in our heads! \nWe don’t have preconceived ideas about what BZN is or should be\, and we hope that the existence of the zine club will allow for the organic co-creation of a network\, involving everyone who attends. We believe in the spirit of DIY and DIT (do-it-together) culture; we think that how Brighton Zine Network grows and evolves in the future is something that everyone has a say in. \n——————————————————– \nZine club accessibility: \nThe group has been started by people who are all some combination of trans\, queer\, mad\, working class\, disabled and/or women! We want to continue to centre marginalized people in general. \nThe first five meetings will be in a private room at the Cowley Club. We’ve chosen this space because it is financially accessible\, wheelchair accessible and a rare non-capitalist space in Brighton. Zine club is free to attend; small donations towards the room hire are welcomed but not expected. \nAccess through the main club involves going both up and down a lot of narrow steps\, as well as around narrow corners. \nWheelchair and step-free access is by the back-door\, which is located in Providence Place. There is a very slight ‘lip’ on the doorframe into the room. The back door says 52a on it and is decorated with some very distinctive graffiti (see group photos). We will leave this door unlocked during the workshop. If you would like someone to come outside and meet you and open the door\, please send us a message in advance and we will give you a phone number to call. Once in the room there is an accessible toilet. \nThere will be no background music and folk are welcome to leave or arrive at any time. Folk are also welcome to put their headphones on and ignore others as we work and hang out. \nWe are committed to making the network and club as accessible as possible. DESCRIPTION:Zinester Sophie Sherwood will share with you the art of creating this classic\, low-fi\, DIY form of publication. They will be bringing zines from their own collections to share with and inspire you. \nPresented by Arnolfini as part of the Still I Rise expanded programme. \nThis workshop\, in conjunction with Still I Rise: Feminisms\, Gender\, Resistance – Act 3\, aims to look at everyday feminism and how we can bring together ideas to distribute to a wider audience through the power of zines. An accessible\, affordable way of sharing ideas and information\, totally independent of formal and commercial systems\, the Zine has been the activist’s go to tool for ever. \nSophie Sherwood is a visual artist living and working in Bristol and has recently completed an MA in Photography at UWE. She specialises in cameraless photographic creative workshops and zine making for all ages. \nMaterials and equipment will be provided\, but please bring anything from your own archive you’d particularly like to include (photocopied if it’s precious) for some old-school cutting and pasting. \nWe recommend a walk around the exhibition prior to the event to soak up the different forms of feminist activist expression that can offer up an inspiration or a space for self reflection. \nThe materials used could contain partial nudity. \nStill I Rise: Feminisms\, Gender\, Resistance – Act 3 is a large-scale exhibition of international artists\, highlighting the experiences of women and celebrating their triumphs – with an expanded programme of performances\, screenings\, workshops and talks filling Arnolfini through Autumn 2019.
