It’s an opportunity to hang out and meet like minded people who love creativity\, have a drink and listen to some music. But its not just that\, you can also: \nSHARE: Bring along examples of Your work and projects you are working on and get input\, insight\, critique\, or just people to go “Ooh” at it. \nCREATE: We will have making materials\, paper\, a long stapler\, scissors\, etc for you to make a zine right there and then. \nREAD: Look at our growing Zine Library\, or donate some of your own so people can read your stuff. \nCOLLABORATE: Meet people who want to do the same things you do\, and start your own zine\, or disto\, or whatever! \nTHIS IS A PAY AS YOU FEEL EVENT\, as we will be asking for donations towards the use of the venue. DESCRIPTION:Come and join Brighton Zine Network at our fortnightly(ish) zine club! Zine club is a place to make\, learn\, and talk about zines in an informal and encouraging space. It is also a place to connect with other zine-makers and zine-interested folk in Brighton\, with the aim of creating a collaborative and supportive zine community in the city. \nBasic materials (paper\, glue\, scissors\, pens\, etc)\, zines and ‘how-to’ guides will be provided\, as will biscuits! Everyone is welcome\, whether you’re an experienced zinester or you’ve never made a zine before. \nZine club will run from 2-5pm on Sundays; the dates for 2019 are 29th September\, 13th October\, 3rd and 17th November\, 1st December. \nZine club will be in the Cowley Club Library which is a private room accessed via the main Cowley Club cafe space on London Road or via the back door on Providence Place (see below for access details). \n——————————————————– \nWho is Brighton Zine Network? \nWe’re a small group of people with varying levels of zine experience\, all living in Brighton. Right now\, Brighton Zine Network is mostly just an idea in our heads! \nWe don’t have preconceived ideas about what BZN is or should be\, and we hope that the existence of the zine club will allow for the organic co-creation of a network\, involving everyone who attends. We believe in the spirit of DIY and DIT (do-it-together) culture; we think that how Brighton Zine Network grows and evolves in the future is something that everyone has a say in. \n——————————————————– \nZine club accessibility: \nThe group has been started by people who are all some combination of trans\, queer\, mad\, working class\, disabled and/or women! We want to continue to centre marginalized people in general. \nThe first five meetings will be in a private room at the Cowley Club. We’ve chosen this space because it is financially accessible\, wheelchair accessible and a rare non-capitalist space in Brighton. Zine club is free to attend; small donations towards the room hire are welcomed but not expected. \nAccess through the main club involves going both up and down a lot of narrow steps\, as well as around narrow corners. \nWheelchair and step-free access is by the back-door\, which is located in Providence Place. There is a very slight ‘lip’ on the doorframe into the room. The back door says 52a on it and is decorated with some very distinctive graffiti (see group photos). We will leave this door unlocked during the workshop. If you would like someone to come outside and meet you and open the door\, please send us a message in advance and we will give you a phone number to call. Once in the room there is an accessible toilet. \nThere will be no background music and folk are welcome to leave or arrive at any time. Folk are also welcome to put their headphones on and ignore others as we work and hang out. \nWe are committed to making the network and club as accessible as possible. If you have any additional accessibility needs please do get in touch with us and we will do our absolute best to meet them.

SUMMARY:Zine Club! Manchester with Shy Bairns
DESCRIPTION:Shy Bairns will be running a workshop using collage materials and a risograph printer\, aiming to create a collaborative zine loosely based around themes of community and local identity. \nShy Bairns is multi-disciplinary collective specialising in DIY arts publications. Their first publication in their self titled series\, The Only Pizza Shop Where I Live Burnt Down\, was released December 2016\, with a second\,Where’s Your Coat You’re Going To Be Cold\, following in April 2017. Both zines intended to gather northern creatives together on one platform\, creating a community regardless of medium\, level\, background or theme. Other past projects involve curated shows at Caustic Coastal\, Manchester and online @ isthisit.com\, alongside zine making workshops ran for Middlesbrough Art Weekender 2017. Shy Bairns usually print in muti-coloured riso unless they absolutely can not do that then will reluctantly roll their eyes and print like normies. Shy Bairns consists of Erin Blamire\, Izzy Kroese\, Georgia Gibson and Elle Haswell. All creatives involved can be found here. \n\nZine Club is a space where anyone can read\, make zines\, collaborate\, be shown what a zine is and how to make one\, work on an existing project\, or ask more seasoned zine-makers any practical questions. \nJust come and have a nice hang out and a chat with us! DESCRIPTION:Come along to the first Open Meeting of the Edinburgh Zine Library. Learn more about the zines\, the zine library and how to get involved. \nThere’ll be a short presentation (15 minutes) about the ZIne Library Project\, followed by a drop-in and a chance to chat to us about volunteering and other ways to get involved. Bring your own zines if you want to submit them\, bring yourselves. You don’t need any experience\, just an interest in zines\, archiving\, diy cultures\, social history or libraries. The George Washington Browne room is located on the mezzanie adjacent to the music library. If you’re unsure how to find it – ask the lovely people at the library reception\, they’ll be more than happy to help! \nWe want the library to be as accessible as possible so we\, the Edinburgh Zine Library\, operate a safe space policy throughout our organisation and all our meetings – you can have a read of it here if you’re unsure what that means: https://edinburghzinelibrary.wordpress.com/safe-space-agreement/ \nIf you have any questions about the accessibility of the meeting or the meeting room please just ask. DESCRIPTION:New monthly zine club at The Making Space! Bring along your latest zine to work on\, come along to learn more about zines\, or just come and sit and chat with a cuppa! \nZine club is free but if you want to use any Making Space materials (and there’s A LOT! We may have a photocopier by then too) then a donation to the space would be lovely. \nPlease note this isn’t a zine making workshop and is more of a social/own project thing. There will be zine making workshops in the future\, but zine club is for working on your own thing\, browsing the zine library\, collaborating or just coming along to have a chat and see what it’s about 🙂 \nThe Making Space is in the basement of the Media Centre (the main building with reception) but as it’s the weekend the front entrance will be closed. If you come round the back there’s a door on Friendly St with lots of doorbells\, we’re in L13. \nI’ll probably bring some kind of vegan friendly cake/snacks\, if anyone else wants to bring some to share that would be lovely!
