SUMMARY:Queer Theory for Everyday Life
DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for a relaxed in-person exploration of Queer Theory and the many ways we can use it in our everyday lives!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nQueer Theory encompasses an intentional questioning and deconstructing of the categories (man or woman)\, oppositions (man vs. woman\, heterosexual vs. homosexual) and equations (gender=sex) that underpin notions of identity and sexuality (Rosemary Hennessy\, Queer Theory: A Review of the difference Special Issue and Wittig’s The Straight Mind). \nQueer Theory\, alike various domains of theory\, has a reputation for being ‘out of reach’ or ‘difficult to grasp’. We strongly believe it doesn’t have to be that way and want to take folks who are interested in Queer Theory\, on a journey to explore how it can be used in everyday life. The discussion will be naturally led by the thoughts and reflections of the participants – we will also provide discussion prompters i.e excerpts from texts and visuals. \nFollowing on from the main discussion\, participants are then invited to partake in a Zine workshop where they can develop what they’ve explored into an authentic Zine!! \nAll activities are hosted by Book28 Volunteers. DESCRIPTION:Coin-Operated Press presents this 2-hour zine-making workshop with a focus on making zines themed around nerd culture and fandoms.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nCoin-Operated Press presents this 2-hour zine-making workshop with a focus on making zines themed around nerd culture and fandoms. \nIn this workshop\, you will be creating an 8-page mini-zine folded from one sheet of paper to take home at the end! \nWe will provide all of the materials you will need to create your zine pages\, but please feel free to bring some of your own collage materials from home – this may include: magazine pages\, coloured paper\, stickers\, ribbons\, washi tape\, etc. \nAll experience levels are welcome. \nNumbers are limited so please register here\, and entry is on a sliding scale payment (cash or card) on the day\, as follows: \nUnemployed/low-income: £3 \nEmployed: £6 \nComfortable and keen: £12 \nDonations will help cover supplies and also help us to continue our work with zine-outreach and publishing the work of those who might not otherwise be published. \n  \nThis workshop will take place in The Hive\, Dundee University Students’ Association\, Airlie Place\, Dundee\, DD1 4HP \nIf you have any access needs\, please email us at coinoperatedpress@gmail.com \n  \nCoin-Operated Press are an artist-led social enterprise based in Scotland.
