DESCRIPTION:Join artist and writer Rachel Rowan Olive and artist Beth Hopkins for a workshop exploring the personal and political power of the zine. Have a go at making your own zine using different design and folding techniques. \nNo previous art experience necessary\, all welcome. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. Concessions are available for SLAM service users\, people over 60\, students\, people on ESA\, people registered disabled and their carers. \nIf you are unable to attend the workshop\, please contact us to cancel your place. SUMMARY:Zine the Archive! (Public workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Learn to write and bind your own zine! In this workshop\, we’ll transform copies of archival material from the Women’s Aid Archive into hand-bound zines. During the first part of the workshop\, we’ll use archival material to tell our own stories\, crafting poetry or prose through the inspirational material housed at the library. You’ll then learn how to hand-bind your stories into minature books using traditional bookbinding techniques. \nThis event is open to all. \nThe GWL Community Room is accessible via stairs and a lift\, and there is an accessible toilet on the same floor. A portable hearing loop is available\, please inform us beforehand if you require this so that we can be sure to welcome you.

DESCRIPTION:Learn about the law regulating fertility treatment and feminist critiques of the same. Explore the legislation and case law which regulates embryo production and the devastating consequences this regulation can have for people who want to make babies (particularly women\, trans-men and non-binary folk). Learn about the history of zines and then contribute pages to a collaboratively created zine addressing the issues discussed. No prior knowledge/experience needed! \nThis event is part of the Being Human Festival and is organised by the Centre for Biomedicine\, Self and Society at the University of Edinburgh in partnership with Edinburgh Zine Library.

Get hands-on and investigate health and beauty ideals promoted by social media and magazines.
