DESCRIPTION:When\n19 September 2019 – 20 September 2019\n12:00-7:00pm each day \nPrice: Free \n\nDescription\nZines\, or fanzines\, are self-published material made for little money and distributed cheaply. Their focus is not on profit\, but rather they have historically been used as a tool of political resistance\, often circumventing traditional publishing and distributing standards\, giving a voice to the underrepresented and marginalized. Though zines were forged in the fires of oppression\, they grew and expanded to other subcultures\, such as punk and Riot Grrrl\, science fiction writers\, comic makers\, artists and designers\, in addition to their foundation of anti-fascism\, anti-racism\, and anti-sexism. \nJoin Disability Arts Online in creating a zine based on the themes of this year’s Sick! Festival. Materials and prompts will be provided\, as well as a selection of zines to flip through for inspiration and enjoyment. This is an all-day event\, and all are welcome to drop in and out and create as many pages as desired. \nFind out more about Sick! Festival.

DESCRIPTION:Creative writing and zine-making workshops for 14+ LGBTQ+ people\, where we will explore gender\, identity\, non –binary and transgender issues\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nHi I’m Melody! I’m a writer and performer and as apart of my solo show *gender not included\, I’m running some creative writing zine making workshops for 14+ LGBTQ+ people\, where we will talk about identity\, representation\, do writing exercises and create our own lil zines! It’s a safe space for us all to relax\, chat\, make new friends or just have a nice sit down. \nI wanted to offer peeps a chance to be creative\, try something they might not ususally do and just have a space to be comfy and yourself – as well getting a bit crafty and making some zines! (cos I love zines) All materials provided! \nThe event is 14+ however please do get in touch at melodysproates@gmail.com if you have any questions or have any concerns. \nThis workshop will run 5-8pm at Cobalt Studios in Newcastle. SUMMARY:Free workshop – BAME Lib Zine issue #02
DESCRIPTION:Who is the workshop for?\nThe session is primarily for Black\, Asian\, Minority Ethnic\, QTIPOC librarians and informational professionals who wish to share their experiences and create a toolkit to support others in the sector. \nThe workshop will include:\n\nQuick introduction to zines and a look at the Stuart Hall Library zine collection.\nDiscussion on the theme of ‘Surviving the Sector’\nHands on zine-making\n\nAfter the workshop\, he work will be collated into a digital zine to be shared online. I also aim to share the zine with libraries with zine collections who may be interested in holding a physical copy. I will create a credits list at the back of the zine\, your work can be submitted under an anonymous name if you wish. \nStuart Hall Library have very kindly agreed to host this workshop in their new location and will provide scissors\, paper\, glue\, pencils\, pens\, makers and access to a photocopier. However\, this is run without a budget so please help out by bringing\, pencils\, glue stick\, scissors\, old magazines if you have any.
