DESCRIPTION:Join Women’s History Oxford for an evening of collaborative zine-making to celebrate International Women’s Day! Using the research gathered at our Learning Extravaganza in October\, we’ll be looking at presenting our findings about current and historical women’s spaces in Oxford in visually interesting ways. \nMaterials:\nWe’ll be getting creative with scissors and glue sticks\, so feel free to bring along any collage material you have knocking about at home. No artistic skill\, experience\, or technical expertise is necessary – anyone can make a zine! \nAbout the facilitator\n \nHolly Casio is a zine maker\, writer and workshop facilitator. She uses collage\, text and illustrations to create zines and comix relating to mental health\, queer identity and pop culture\, as well as using zines to share information around politics and activism. Following the screening of Persepolis\, Ingrid Francis\, curator at Salford Zine Library and Isobel Harrop\, author and artist\, will facilitate this practical zine making workshop inspired by the film’s themes. Participants will have the chance to create their own zine and explore techniques used to make visual stories. \nThis workshop is for those aged 16-19 and participants must attend the screening of Persepolis prior to the workshop.

SUMMARY:The House That Heals The Soul: Digital Collections
DESCRIPTION:https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-house-that-heals-the-soul-workshop-with-shy-bairns-tickets-42908582726?aff=es2 \nJoin Shy Bairns as they work with our Designers in Residence\, Jamie Hudson and Orlando Lloyd\, for a workshop as part of the exhibition\, The House That Heals The Soul. This workshop will explore how digital matter on the internet are grouped into collections\, be it through websites like YouTube\, Instagram\, or the photos saved on your phone. Workshop attendees should come with a smart phone\, tablet or laptop\, and Shy Bairns will work with them to print a collection. Alongside this\, there will be smaller drawing and collage activities. \nThis workshop will teach you how to use you the processes and tools that go in to making small-run and DIY publications with this Northern zine collective. Participants are welcome to make an optional pay as you feel donation at the end of the workshop to cover material costs. At the end of the session you will have a publication or printed matter to take home. Copies will be kept and distributed by Shy Bairns\, one copy will stay in the exhibition’s growing library and the other will be for you to take home or distribute. \nThe House That Heals the Soul is both an exhibition and a functioning publishing studio. Its presentation at The Tetley coincides with the International Contemporary Artists’ Book Fair. See our website for more information. \nShy Bairns’ self titled series includes work from anyone who calls the North ‘home’. Their first publication\, The Only Pizza Shop Where I Live Burnt Down\, was released December 2016\, with a second\, Where’s Your Coat You’re Going To Be Cold\, following in April 2017. Both zines intended to gather northern creatives together on one platform\, creating a community regardless of medium\, level\, background or theme. Their third zine of the series is on it’s way.
