Sheffield Zine Fest 2020

Come along to browse and buy zines and crafts made by local writers, artists and designers and those from further afield – or make your own – and find out all about independent publishing.

What’s a zine? Pronounced ‘zeen’ like maga-zine, it’s a magazine or booklet that you make yourself, and give away, swap or sell for the cost of printing. What’s the point? To share your knowledge, or your feelings, or your experiences in a way that’s more tangible than blogging, less commercial, and more immediate than traditional print media.

Free entry and free workshops: make a mini zine, try mail art, craftivism, and more!

Part of the Festival of Debate 2020.

Dream Babes Zine Readings

Dream Babes is a long term project that explores science and speculative fiction as a productive strategy of queer resistance, imaging futurity that does not depend on existing historical and social infrastructure. It has included science fiction porn screenings and talks, a three-day programme of performance at Auto Italia South East, a publication, and a regular science fiction reading group for queer people of colour.

This event celebrates the launch of Dream Babes zine 2.0 published by PSS, featuring contributions from:

Sophia Al Maria

Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley

Angela Chan and Xia Jia

Orion J Facey

Bing Hao

Irene Tokini Fubara Manuel

Imani Robinson

Ashkan Sepahvand

Daniella Valz Gen

Victoria Sin and Samuel R Delany

Dream Babes Zine 2.0 focuses on the questions that speculative fiction can ask which are especially important now – what if things were different? What if things stay the same? How can we realise the absurd in the familiar?

Part of Site Gallery’s exhibition ‘Rewriting The Future‘ Public Programme.
